Sticker Shock
I remember when I first got my car, brand new off the lot. I was proud of myself for picking such a fuel efficient vehicle, one that paired power with conservation. My little Honda Accord only took about 14 gallons of gas and I could fill up the tank for $17.
Fast forward five years. I just put $49.93 worth of gas in that very same tank.
Painful.
After the nozzle clicked, I wiggled and jiggled the hose, trying to coax every last drop of precious petroleum into my tank. I’d paid for it and paid for it dearly. I didn’t care who saw me.
I’m sure it was my antics that grabbed the attention of the guy at the next fuel island over. He looked at me with an understanding grimace as he removed the nozzle from the tank of his Chevy Avalanche. He’d pumped 24.5 gallons and it ran him $94.
