WITW: The Friday reveal

Man, there's no fooling you people.

What I posted on Monday with the promise that this would be The Hardest WITW Evah!!!! turned out not to be not so tough to guess after all.

Here's the elephant that lives in the parking lot of American Furniture Warehouse at 3900 High Point Road (near Merritt Drive):

Watch out! Here it comes!

A bunch of you knew this one.

Sheby Luck Newton of Greensboro was the first person to respond, and she was the only person to e-mail me before correct guesses started showing up in the comments thread. Sheby, who used to work at the N&R, shared this: "I have a toddler and every time we drive by that animal display he goes nuts!"

Four more of you got the what and the where:

* Jennifer Benton of Greensboro

* Sarah Foley of Greensboro. (Sarah's take: "These are getting easy!")

* Deanna Miller of Greensboro

* Tabitha Shepherd of Greensboro

Three other folks knew that this critter was an elephant:

* Patricia Ceasar
* Victoria Davis of Greensboro
* Mike Dunn of Greensboro
* Jennifer Hunt

And here's the elephant's best friend, a giraffe:

And here's the two of them together:

According to my own memory banks as well as a 2004 story by former N&R staffer Jim Schlosser, the elephant and giraffe used to live across the street at the Putt-Putt Golf & Games. The mini-golf course and arcade closed in 2002, and all of its oversized fixtures were auctioned off in 2004.

Or maybe the elephant and giraffe wandered across the street. Hard to say ... ;)
