WITW: The Friday reveal
This mermaid is on the side of the Tri-City Fish Market ...

... at 123 Florida St, just west of S. Elm-Eugene St.:

A lot of you probably remember the mural from the side of the fish market that used to be at the corner of S. Elm and W. Lee streets, right on the edge of downtown. The business moved to its current (and less visible) location in the summer of 2007. The old building is now gone, torn down by the city. Lucky for us, the sign went with the fish market to its new location.
Staff writer Tina Firesheets did a story back in February about the fish market and the mural. That piece prompted one of my favorite stories of the year, one about the identity of the man who painted the mermaid 25 years ago. Tina did that one, too. Go read. You'll be glad you did.
Only one of you knew that this week's WITW was a mermaid: The mystery Greensboro resident who goes by the initials C.A.R. He (or she?) is the first three-time winner of the mostly weekly WITW contest.
Check back on Monday for a WITW offering out of one of our neighboring cities.
