Anti-first first dates
Dinner and a movie? Boring!
The first-ever first date I went on involved me and my 83 Honda Accord with a freshman from my high school. I was 17 at the time. We ordered sandwiches at a cafe and had cake. Afterward, we talked about how blue the sky was at dusk. Sweet, huh?
These days, it seems that getting away from that dinner/movie stuff is the best bet to get to know someone.
My most successful first date ever started at College Hill Sundries and ended at the Rhino. My friends have taken dates disc golfing, thrift store shopping, to concerts and out on paddle boats.
They're simple ideas, but establishing that "I'm going to be different," makes your date know you're not the norm.
I say keep the dinner/movie for date No. 2. That's when the magic happens anyway.
So what other places around here are good for an anti-first first date? Any bombs? Super successes?

this is going to sound very tame but Scene-It provides some fun competitive moments without seeing the whole movie but still keeping the interaction. that one works better with movie buffs.

Yeah, it's kinda tame-sounding, but different situations require different tactics for fun. Whatever it takes for a good time, right?

Paintball is a bit on the expensive side but its either extreme or not interesting. I find very few ladies that are in between.

Go-Kart racing and hiking to waterfalls are a couple of things I like to do with a girl on a first date. Never a movie...how are you gonna find out who they are if you can't talk to them for 2 hours?

Aren't unconventional first dates sort of risky? I'm a pretty adventuresome girl, and that's what got me stuck in a canoe with a total dud and no chance of escape. I paddled faster and he was still there. Then we had to push his car off the muddy shoulder of the road we parked on to put in.
Do you have a strategy for escape --or just coping -- if the date starts to fall apart?

If it's a complete bomb, I say just let the whole thing fly off the rails. Especaially if there's an obvious character conflict and no way to get out.
Have fun with it - especially if the date winds up being a total jerk and your fun is at their expense. Those make for great stories and a good laugh with friends later.

if you're into running...you can do one of those GPS scavenger hunts or hashing....the GPS scavenger hunt sounds kinda fun.
