Just another Thursday to me
Tomorrow is Thursday and it's also Valentine's Day. This year I don't have plans for Valentine's Day. Now I could spend the day thinking about that fact, worrying about that fact and wallowing in my singleness. Or I could realize that for the single woman without a date, tomorrow is just another Thursday.
Earlier this week I got an invitation from a couple of friends whose boyfriends won't be in town this Valentine's Day to have a fancy dinner with them tomorrow. I could go and surround myself with friends to forget about my dateless night. Or, following another common theme among single women, I could rail against Valentine's Day and say it's a made-up holiday and I just don't believe in it. I could even attend one of the several "Valentine's Day sucks" theme parties I've heard about.
The truth is, though, that if I had a significant other, I'd enjoy Valentine's Day. There's no point lying to myself that the day is just lame only to have to be a hypocrite later when I expect flowers and candy.
So, this year, I'm not going to let a holiday made for a couples bring me down because I'm not part of one. It's just any other Thursday to me.
What about you? When you don't have a date for Valentine's Day, does it bother you? Do you try and keep busy or is it not even an issue for you?

I believe that people should celebrate V-Day as they wish. However, I choose to not be around couples as they do so. I am not in a relationship, so I will, therefore, stay home, clean the house, watch a movie and go to bed at a decent hour.

Wings, beer and martial arts movies followed by jumping around my living room pretending i'm a ninja until i knock something over. clean up whatever i knocked over. take out the trash. laugh at some stupid celeb on TMZ and then head to bed. It wont be valentines day for me. its just the day before payday and i have a little bit of money leftover.

That sounds like fun! My plan is to curl up on my couch and have my mind blown by another episode of Lost.

Yea, but that ninja turtle action sounds like too much work! Think I'll watch Saw IV and drink too much wine! lol

Not having plans for Valentine's Day doesn't bother me because I dork out about it the whole week. I am the September Christmas decorator of Valentine's Day. So by the actual day, I'm really sort of pink and rosed out.
Remember elementary school when everybody decorated a shoe box and brought each other Valentines and your class had a party? I think that is my favorite memory from school. Well, just behind getting accepted to college, maybe.
And I don't think I've ever actually had a date -- I know I've been dating someone over Valentine's Day plenty of times, but I can't think of any celebrations. When I'm single, almost every year I am trying to instigate some event for my single friends. But this year, nada.

I will be doing the same as Betty most likely since I am a major Lost fan. Most of it will be spent on a plane flying back to Greensboro anyway...

I'm putting the last coat of paint on my bedroom tomorrow night so I can stop sleeping on my office floor.
