Endorsements
We'll start our primary endorsements this week, on this schedule:
District 1, Thursday
District 3, Friday
District 5, Saturday
At-Large, Sunday.
They are not going to be easy.
Attending last night's forum for at-large candidates sponsored by the League of Women Voters gave me a little more clarity, but trying to pick three out of the 13 is a real challenge.
The good news for voters, though, is that they can select among quite a few well-qualified candidates.
Anyone want to weigh in with their favorites? We haven't made our decisions yet.

Have you thought about endorsing six for at-large? I know individually we can only vote for three, but six will make it through the primary and maybe, especially if you are having difficulty picking three at this point, endorsing six would be more appropriate. It would, I think, better reflect the choice before us as a city: "These are the six we'd like to see advance to the general election."

We discussed it briefly. It would be a lot easier but our preliminary thinking was that, because voters get three choices, we'd do the same. Personally, I could easily endorse six.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll raise the point when we confer again.

Please endorse Janet M. Wallace, candidate for City Council At-Large. She will do an excellent job for the citizens.

Wilson in District 3, Knight and Abuzuaiter at-large.

I know you've listed a schedule of when you would post "endorsements." I'd like to share with
you my primary predictions, (those candidates that will be going into the general election), and give a short, to the point smmary. My predictions are:
CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE: (6)
MARIKAY ABUZUAITER
SANDRA ANDERSON-GROAT
ROBERT V. "ROBBIE" PERKINGS
JOEL LANDAU
KEVIN GREEN
MARY RAKESTRAW
CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT ONE: (2)
TONYA CLINKSCALE
LUTHER FALLS
(Note: Should T. DIANNE BELLAMY-SMALLS,
make it, it would be because of racial segregation from her, and her supporters.)
CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT THREE: (2)
ZACK MATHENY
JOE WILSON
CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT FIVE: (2)
SANDY CARMANY
TRUDY WADE
With the At-Large candidates, we find some new faces, familiar faces, and come-back faces. With
MARIKAY ABUZUAITER, a prominent savy business woman. Someone who knows how to work with recipes, will probably be able to come to the table with more than just one "dish." She focuses on accountability, and the need for a friendlier service oriented city structure. She offers hospitality, with results. Wouldn't you like to have someone like MARIKAY, serving you?
KEVIN GREEN, very popular in the "who's, who,
catergory of affluency". I earlier remarked about his pre-campaign doings, when it was learned by the N&R, that his campaign sought outside/outcity
businesses to assist his campaign. If you care about our city, wouldn't you take care of your neighbors to handle your campaign? Furthermore, as his role as president of GRRA, and reading his "messages" to his associates in a weekly insert, that's pretty cool. Use all the resources you can get to get your message across. At least you're keeping it local.
JOEL LANDAU, our "Make America Beautiful"
candidate. JOEL, keep up the good work, insuring we take care of our greenspace. But, JOEL, how can we take care of our greenspace, when we are under water restrictions? I know, I know, we're still waiting on the Randleman Dam
project.
As for, SANDRA ANDERSON-GROAT, MARY
RAKESTRAW, and ROBERT V. "ROBBIE" PERKINS. Name recognition is your strong point.
ANDERSON-GROAT is seeking re-election. PERKINS, is seeking "re-election." RAKESTRAW,
is seeking "re-instatement?"
Gee, it's sounds like a marriage ritual, you know,
"something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
District races are interesting this time around. You can feel the fierceness of the compeition. Take District One. RECALL. That's what will be on the voter's mind. District Three, money, money, money, and puppeteers are all about this district. District Five, a Greensboro's version of
"Survivor."
So, we'll just see what happens, at around 10:00
p.m., on October 9th. When the results are reported (unofficial results), and then, the real
campaigning comes into play.
