Question of the week (Dec. 23)
Which issues or events affected you the most in 2007?
Was it the housing market, the war in Iraq or something more local or more personal? Did your life change much because of it? Or do you see it leading to change?

It seems that violence and crime are on the rise in Greensboro. I live out in the county so it doesn't affect me directly, but I am concerned with the increased number of murders, robberies, and other crimes being committed in the more urban areas, at least those being reported by the News and Record. I wonder if these are random thugs or if they are gang related incidents.
Another concern of mine is the lack of discipline and real consquence for disruptive behavior and acts of violence in Guilford County Schools. Grier and central office administrators seem to be afraid to actually do anything to students who constantly disrupt the learning environment and in many cases, are a danger to both faculty and other students. But, this is what happens when there is a superintendent who is more concerned about appearance than reality.
Maybe the criminals committing crimes in the streets got the impression that nothing of substance will really happen to them when they break the law (or rules) because they attended Guilford County Schools.

Not once during 2007 did I attend a regularly scheduled temple, mosque, or church service. Did I miss anything that could not be found elsewhere - ?
